The Indigofera plant is fascinating with it’s alchemy, and is revered and coveted by cultures all around the globe for it’s intensely deep, rich colours and protective, even spiritual qualities. In our workshop, we are going to be working with the most unique and oldest plant dye pigment in the world — Indigo — in a contemporary way using the 1,2,3 fructose sugar vat.
Get earthy with your hands in the dye vats and experience the alchemy of Mother Nature as you’re guided into a journey of creativity using unique wrapping and binding techniques on your own project piece, as well as a historical & cultural exploration and sustainability of these crafts in modern times.
You will learn valuable knowledge on how to use the fructose indigo vat to achieve different shades of blue, and will leave with an understanding of indigo dyeing as well shibori concepts for your own finished project and continuing this practice outside of the workshop.
You will create:
– a cotton indigo dyed summer sarong/wrap designed with various shibori techniques
– participants also allowed to bring 1 small natural fiber garment of their own to dye into the vat!
Cost per adult: $115 (includes a $15 materials fee)
Limited places available.
This workshop uses a chemical-free and all-natural dyeing process.
